Hatch Beauchamp is a picturesque village in Somerset which dates back to Saxon times. After the Norman Conquest the area belonged to the Beauchamp family. The village makes a good overnight stop-off point on your journey through to Exeter.

The Hatch Inn

The Hatch Inn is a family run, independent freehouse which serves high quality food. Thursday nights are billed as pizza nights, where pizza is cooked on the premises in their own oven. They have regular live entertainment from folk music to acoustic and selection of local ciders are available.

The restaurant uses locally sourced produce where possible and the cellar is stocked with carefully selected house wines and a variety of vintages.

The Hatch Inn was originally a coaching inn during the 18th century. The Inn has a number of en suite rooms should you fancy an overnight stop. This will give you the opportunity to sample the ales and ciders!

St John's Church

The historic Church of St John the Baptist, Hatch Beauchamp was built during the Norman period and has a crenellated 3-stage tower dating to circa 1500. Usually churches within this architectural group display angle buttresses but St John's is exceptional in that it has diagonal buttresses. Extra bays were added to the north and south aisles during a 19th century restoration project by the prolific English Gothic Revival architect George Gilbert Scott. The church has been designated as a Grade I listed building.

St John's has a window dedicated to the memory of Colonel John Rouse Merriott Chard (1847–1897) who was an English soldier who participated in the defence of Rorke's Drift in 1879 for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross.

The church is in the 'Seven Sowers Benefice', which covers Curry Mallet, Hatch Beauchamp, Orchard Portman, Staple Fitzpaine, Stoke St Mary (with Thurlbear) and West Hatch. The Benefice is part of the Diocese of Bath and Wells in the Church of England. The church is within the archdeanery of Taunton.
