Crowcombe Heathfield Station
Crowcombe Heathfield station passed a small but important landmark in its history when in 2010 it sold its first train tickets since British Railways days. As a result of energetic fund-raiding and hard work by the Friends of Crowcombe Heathfield the former booking office has been brought back to life.
This is the latest in a steady series of improvements since the re-opening began, previous one having included the building of a new signal box, the re-instatement of the passing loop for trains and the signals, and a new shelter on the platform for Minehead-bound passengers. In another enhancement the station also offer toilet facilities for disabled passengers.
Because of its remote location Crowcombe Heathfield has featured in a number of films of which the best-known is probably "A Hard Day’s Night”, the Beatles first feature. The sequence showing Crowcombe Heathfield is one with Ringo riding a bicycle on the platform.
Crowcombe Heathfield is the second station on the West Somerset Railway.
